ELEPHANT (2003) — Elephant is a piece of work that should be commended for its bravery. Such compliments are mainly intended to for Gus Van Sant's guts on using such non-linear and unusual narrative spectacle. Also packed with such unnatural risky styles which was really cost lot of guts.

COUNT Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy atau Leo Tolstoy (Christopher Plummer), pengarang sekaligus filsuf terkenal asal Rusia, hendak mendonasikan semua harta dan properti pribadi hasil kerja kerasnya pada rakyat Rusia. Dan istrinya, Countess Sophia Andreyevna Tolstaya atau Sofia Tolstaya (Helen Mirren), menentang habis-habisan rencana yang akan menguras segala warisan untuk keturunannya tersebut. Siapa yang bisa menyalahkan ketidaksetujuan Sofia, sang istri? Bukankah Sofia keinginan terhadap harta pribadi keluarganya tersebut sangat manusiawi? Bahkan alasan kepentingan moral, kemiskinan, hingga tetek-bengek kemanuasiaan pun tidak bisa menyalahkan penentangan Sofia atas kehendak suaminya. Apa yang Sofia lakukan adalah tindakan sangat manusiawi!

Maka seharusnya, film ini pun menyajikan sebuah misteri yang sama misteriusnya dengan kisah Amelia Earhart itu.
