Such compliments are mainly intended to for Gus Van Sant's guts on using such non-linear and unusual narrative spectacle. Also packed with such unnatural risky styles which was really cost lot of guts.

Kalau yang dicari adalah film tentang superhero yang tidak benar-benar “super,” maka Kick-Ass adalah pilihan yang tepat. Menarik lo sebenarnya: “superhero yang tidak super.” Frase tersebut kurang lebih serupa dengan “pawang macan yang tidak mempunyai keahlian pawan macan.”

FILM besutan dari sutradara yang juga membesut “Adventureland” ini dikategorikan ke dalam kelompok screwball comedy. Screwball comedy sendiri adalah julukan untuk tipe-tipe film “pria dijajah wanita.” Garis besarnya, screwball comedy adalah komedi tentang para laki-laki yang “kejantanannya” ditantang demi para wanita. Dalam kancah perfilman, genre ini dipopulerkan oleh film “It Happened One Night,” film yang dibintangi Clark Gable. Sebelumnya, bentuk-bentuk screwball comedy ini pun bisa ditemukan dalam drama-drama Shakespeare, antara lain “Much Ado About Nothing,” “As You Like It,” dan yang paling terkanal “A Midsummer Night's Dream.” Dalam kancah perfilman modern Indonesia, wujud paling terasa dari screwball comedy bisa ditemukan di “Janji Joni.”
